PLIDA Upper Intermediate Italian Class B2.1 (In-Person)

This upper-intermediate course marks the beginning of B2-level language proficiency and is designed for students who have completed Italian B1.3 or possess an equivalent level.
The course focuses on: developing students' communication skills in a variety of everyday and professional contexts. Students will learn to narrate past events, express opinions and emotions, discuss food and cooking, interpret information, and communicate effectively in workplace situations while expanding their knowledge of Italian language and culture.

In this introductory course, students will learn fundamental phonetic, grammatical, and lexical structures through conversations and simple dialogues. This course teaches students to greet formally and informally, introduce themselves, share and request contact information, discuss their age and feelings, and communicate in a classroom setting. They will learn to start conversations, introduce others, apologize, thank people, make reservations, order food, and ask for the bill. Additionally, students will discuss hobbies, likes and dislikes, express agreement and disagreement, count to 100, and ask and answer questions about the time.

This conversation course is the first of two terms designed for elementary students who want to enhance both their fluency and the quality of their spoken Italian. It is intended for learners who have completed PLIDA Beginner A1.3 or have informally acquired a similar level of proficiency. The course can be taken independently or alongside PLIDA Beginner A2.1 to further expand vocabulary and communication skills. Throughout the course, learners will practice common expressions and build confidence in daily conversations while exploring Italian culture.

This course builds on students’ mastery of verb tenses, vocabulary, and communicative functions at the elementary level, while also placing a strong emphasis on Italian culture alongside language instruction. Students will learn to discuss vacations in present and past tenses, inquire about information and prices, and react to situations. They will also talk about food preferences, grocery shopping, giving suggestions, and expressing opinions. Furthermore, the course includes discussions on health, reporting and describing symptoms, offering advice, and talking about one's relationship with sports.
